No arrest for woman who cops say fatally ran over husband

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- An Oklahoma woman ran over her husband with her car, killing the man, and hasn't been charged, reports CBS affiliate KWTV.

Police said Whitney Gonzales, 23, was arguing with her husband, 24-year-old Pete Gonzales, after visiting her mother's home in Chickasha, about 40 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. When Gonzales left the home on foot early Sunday, she reportedly followed in her car to look for him.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol tells the station she found him walking along a highway around 4 a.m. and ran into him with her car, killing him. She smelled of alcohol after the crash, police said.

OHP tells the station the woman didn't have a cell phone with her, so she went to the nearest police station to report it. She was given a blood test to determine if she was drunk, but the tests could take three to six weeks to come back, reports the station.

It's not clear if the woman was given a field sobriety test.

Whitney Gonzales hasn't been arrested or charged, and her husband's family expressed outrage to the station.

"We're really upset. We don't understand why she hasn't been arrested," his sister Jessica Gonzales said. ""He's our baby brother and she's supposed to be his wife. How could she do this?"

The couple's two daughters, 2 and 7, are living with their grandmother as the highway patrol investigates, reports the station.
