N.Y. Knick Raymond Felton arrested on weapons charges
NEW YORK — New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton has been arrested on three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say Felton turned himself in early Tuesday, shortly after the Knicks lost to the Dallas Mavericks at home.
They say an attorney for Felton's wife arrived at a Manhattan precinct with the weapon at 7 p.m. Monday, claiming she didn't want the Belgian-made FN Herstal pistol in the home.
Police say the charges don't stem from Felton using the firearm in a menacing manner. They say he wasn't registered to have the gun.
A Knicks spokesman had no immediate comment. Attorneys for Felton had no comment. A lawyer for wife Ariane Raymondo-Felton didn't respond to requests for comment.
The Knicks signed Felton to a three-year deal in July 2012 after trading star Jeremy Lin.
Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress served 20 months in prison on a gun charge after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a New York City nightclub in 2008.
