New polls: Hillary Clinton heads into Election Day with small lead nationally
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has a small lead nationally heading into Election Day, according to two new polls.
One survey, released Sunday morning by NBC and the Wall Street Journal, found Clinton with a 4-point lead. She has the support of 44 percent of likely voters, according to the poll, followed by Trump with 40 percent, Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson with 6 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 2 percent.
In a two-way matchup between just Clinton and Trump, Clinton’s lead expands to five points (48 percent to 43 percent).
An ABC/Washington Post poll finds a similar margin between the two major-party nominees heading into the week of Election Day. In that survey, Clinton leads Trump by 5 points: she takes 48 percent, compared with his 43 percent.
This is the best result for Clinton in the ABC/Post tracking poll since Oct. 26, ABC noted: though Clinton has generally led in national polling throughout the general election, at one point, on Oct. 30, Trump led her by 1 point.
The two new national polls come as a round of CBS News Battleground Tracker polls show tight races between Clinton and Trump in the battleground states of Ohio and Florida.
The NBC/WSJ poll surveyed 1,282 likely voters from Nov. 3 to 5 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. The ABC/Post poll surveyed 1,685 likely voters from Nov. 1 to 4 and has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
