New "Mary Poppins" film coming from Disney
Mary Poppins will be back to with her flying umbrella and never-ending purse of goodies.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is working on a new live action "Poppins" film, set around 20 years after the classic 1964 movie musical starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
Rob Marshall, director of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "Into the Woods," is behind the remake. Songwriting team Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman ("Hairspray" and "Smash") will do the score. No stars are attached yet.
The original "Mary Poppins" film was made into a film based on the first four books in the series by Walt Disney Productions, written by P. L. Travers. Released on Aug. 27, 1964, "Mary Poppins" received 13 Academy Award nominations and won five, including Best Actress for Andrews.
This reboot announcement comes after several recent Disney live-action remakes have been confirmed, including "Beauty and the Beast" and "Dumbo."
