New Jersey lawmakers seek to ban non-disclosure agreements for sex assault
TRENTON, N.J. — A bipartisan group of state Senate leaders in New Jersey are planning to introduce legislation that would ban nondisclosure agreements designed to cover up sexual harassment and sexual assault.
The legislation is in response to reports of multiple non-disclosure settlements reached between Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein and women who accused him of sexual harassment or sexual assault, reports CBS New York.
New Jersey State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, a Democrat, told New Jersey Advance Media that she wants to ban nondisclosure agreements that cover up anything to do with life safety, or sexual assault, abuse or harassment. Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick, a Republican, is expected to work with Weinberg to draft the legislation.
Similar legislation is also being considered by at least two state legislators in New York, reports Variety.
