New details about Colorado Planned Parenthood shooting suspect Robert Lewis Dear
WASHINGTON -- After a shooting Friday at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, President Obama once again called for tighter gun control.
The president said, "...We have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough."
Law enforcement sources told CBS News the suspect, 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear, started talking to investigators almost from the moment he was taken into custody. According to those sources, he made statements suggesting that he was specifically targeting Planned Parenthood.
His behavior in custody has been described as erratic.
Investigators have been searching Dear's property since his arrest. Over the years, he's lived in remote cabins and trailers in South Carolina, North Carolina and Colorado.
He has also had several run-ins with law enforcement. Police reports and court records in South Carolina show a restraining order and an allegation of domestic violence.
But it was still not clear exactly what sparked Friday's shooting, which killed three people -- including a police officer -- and wounded nine others.
Just two months ago, the FBI sent out an intelligence bulletin to police departments across the country after a series of threats at reproductive health care facilities, including Planned Parenthood.
The bulletin warned of "lone offenders using tactics of arsons and threats" "typical of the pro-life extremist movement."
Planned Parenthood said there was no specific threat against the Colorado Springs clinic.
Law enforcement sources said state charges were imminent against Dear, who could also face federal charges. He is expected in court on Monday.
