Man treads water for over 20 hours in Gulf of Mexico after falling from boat
A Nevada man had to tread water for more than 20 hours after falling from his boat in the Gulf of Mexico before he was rescued Thursday.
A U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued William Durden, 61, from the water 18 miles west of the Florida coast. He wasn't wearing a life jacket when he fell into the Gulf.
Durden set sail from his summer home on the Homosassa River Wednesday morning, the Tampa Bay Times reported. His wife called authorities when he didn't return nearly 12 hours later.
Video from the Coast Guard shows a rescue swimmer being dropped into the water and the crew hoisting him to the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.
The Times reports that there were no medical concerns after he was checked out at Air Station Clearwater.
