National Portrait Gallery unveils Frank Underwood painting

Protagonist and villain Frank Underwood of "House of Cards" may be fictional, but the portrait of him in the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., is very real.

The museum unveiled a painting of President Francis J. Underwood on Monday. The National Portrait Gallery houses the only complete collection of presidential portraits outside of the White House; the portrait of Underwood is a collaboration between British artist Jonathan Yeo and the museum. Yeo is a well-known portrait artist in the U.K. who recently painted supermodel Cara Delevingne, as well.

The unveiling coincided with the premiere of season 4 of "House of Cards," and Netflix used it as an opportunity to blur fiction and reality. The show released a teaser that shows Underwood attending the unveiling, musing about how he should really be next to John Wilkes Booth instead of other presidents.
