MTV VMAs red carpet fashion trends and looks
Lots of skin turned up on the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Cut-outs, glitter, cropped tops, leather, lace, sequins and more were on full display as stars walked the red carpet before the show.
Iggy Azalea, for one, went the cut-out route. The rapper, who donned a silver Versace dress, said, "Versace actually emailed and said they'd like me to wear something."
Model Amber Rose showed off more skin than dress, while Solange Knowles went a different route, sporting a black and navy pants suit. Also donning pants? Gwen Stefani in hot pink.
Rita Ora looked glamorous in her red silk Donna Karan gown. Jennifer Lopez went for both glitz and cut-outs with her look. Taylor Swift opted for something a little different this time. We're used to seeing her in a pretty dress, but on Sunday night she rocked a blue-and-white bodysuit.
On the red carpet, Katy Perry surprised many of us with her denim patchwork dress. She showed up alongside rapper Riff Raff, also wearing denim. Perry called it a throwback to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's memorable denim-on-denim ensemble from the 2001 AMAs. One question: Why?
Ke$ha walked the red carpet, too, showing hair featuring a rainbow of colors.
During MTV's red carpet pre-show Cyrus, wearing a black leather bandeau top and pants, revealed she's working on new music with The Flaming Lips.
"I live to be in the studio...That's my favorite part. This record may take me five years," she said, adding, "It's not about twerking. It's about music."
Some of the men of the evening went the classy route. Sam Smith wore a Gucci navy three-piece Signoria suit with a white evening shirt and brown leather monk strap shoes.
