"The Force Awakens" wins big at MTV Movie Awards 2016
Kevin Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made possibly the best entrance of the awards season with a "Mad Max: Fury Road"-inspired march toward the MTV Movie Awards.
Hart dressed up as Mad Max and Johnson acted the part of Coma-Doof Warrior as they were flanked by drumming War Boys on the backlot of Warner Bros. Studios.
Johnson teased Hart for his diminutive stature, referring to him as an Oompa Loompa and the star of "The Big Short," and the two shared some embarrassing throwback photos of themselves, with Johnson explaining that his photo was from his "buff lesbian" phase.
Miles Teller presented the first award of the night, Best Female Performance, to Charlie Theron for "Mad Max: Fury Road." The MTV Movie Awards War Boys drummed for Theron and she said, "I have my own War Boys!"
Hart and Johnson returned to the stage in costumes: Johnson wore a Superman suit and Hart donned a Batman costume. They began to threaten all of the actors in the audience who had played superheroes before, including Chris Pratt, who just shrugged. Hart did voice some concerns to Johnson about threatening Samuel L. Jackson, but changed his mind and challenged Jackson to a fight.
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele presented Best Virtual Performance and pretended to be virtual performers themselves, claiming their real selves were home "smoking weed or something." The award went to Amy Poehler for "Inside Out," and Poehler took the stage wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt. She talked about "Inside Out" and reminded the audience how hard it is to be a kid sometimes.
Chris Evans presented his highly anticipated film, "Captain America: Civil War."
Afterward, Bella Thorne, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron introduced singer Halsey, who took the stage in a space-age cutout one-piece as she sang "Castle."
Woody Harrelson, Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Eisenberg presented the award to Best Action Performance, which went to Chris Pratt for "Jurassic World," who thanked action heroes before him, including Dwayne Johnson, of course.
Common introduced Johnson and Hart back to the stage as they rapped their new song, "Leo Got F***ed by a Bear," complete with backup dancers with bear ears and cameos by Adam Devine, Jay Pharoah and Rebel Wilson.
Kendrick Lamar presented the True Story award and grinned as he announced that it would go to "Straight Outta Compton." DJ Yella of N.W.A. joined the film's cast onstage and gave shout-outs to Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E as the group accepted the award.
Seth Rogen and Zac Efron came on stage, and Rogen was looking much, much more buff than usual. When Efron asked Rogen what happened to his body, Rogen explained that he had to take "substances" in order to compete with the likes of his "Neighbors" co-star and Ryan Reynolds. "I thought you looked great before," responded Efron.
The pair presented Best Comedic Performance to Ryan Reynolds for "Deadpool," and suddenly, hordes of dancers dressed up as Deadpool filled the space, moving through the aisles, as Salt N Pepa performed "Shoop." When Reynolds accepted the award, he told the audience he tried to make "Deadpool" happen for 10 years and was unable to do it until fans rallied behind him to make the film a reality.
Hart then presented the Generation Award to Will Smith, who he said he greatly admired when he was younger. He called the Generation Award the MTV Movie Awards "highest honor" and then introduced the Lonely Island as they performed a tribute to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." They started with the song "Parents Don't Understand," and moved into the theme song from the show before performing "SummerTime," "Men in Black" and finally, "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It."
Queen Latifah joined the tribute and said Smith gave her her start as an actress when he brought her in for a guest spot on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" before passing on the mic to Halle Berry. The actress called Smith "the voice of an entire generation" and "the biggest fricking movie star in the whole world" before she introduced a video montage of Smith's various movie roles.
Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick and Adam Devine approached the stage and Kendrick announced that she had scoured several dating apps to find single women for her male co-presenters -- but women supposedly auditioning for "16 and Pregnant" showed up instead, spooking Efron and Devine. "So picky," chided Kendrick.
The trio presented Breakthrough Performance to Daisy Ridley for her role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Besties Gigi Hadid and Kendall introduced Ariana Grande's performance. The singer channeled Marilyn Monroe from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" in a hot pink strapless gown and fur stole as she sang her new single "Dangerous Woman."
Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine won Best Kiss, and they explained to the audience that they are not attracted to each other and have "zero chemistry." But as Wilson described how she didn't like Devine's "Cabbage Patch face" and Devine said he wasn't turned on by Wilson's "emerald green eyes," the inevitable happened and the two began to make out on stage until they fell over and Wilson's heels flew off.
Cara Delevingne, Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie of the upcoming "Suicide Squad" presented footage from their film.
Hart and Johnson presented the Comedic Genius award to Melissa McCarthy, who said, "Thank you Mr. Rock Johnson, and Mr. Rock Johnson's assistant," referring to Hart. She also thanked female comedians like Gilda Radnor, Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, Carol Burnett and more.
Emilia Clarke and Andy Samberg joined forces to present Best Fight, which went to the stars of "Deadpool," Ryan Reynolds and Ed Skrein, for their fight between Deadpool and Ajax, respectively.
Then, men in trench coats with briefcases ascended on stage for a choreographed routine, and when they left, just one briefcase was left behind, opening to reveal Eddie Redmayne, who rose up from it.
Redmayne presented a teaser for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Alexander Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson presented Movie of the Year, and strangely, Skarsgard wore no pants -- just a tuxedo jacket, shirt and bow-tie. The award went to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and audience members waved light sabers in the air to celebrate. Director J.J. Abrams and Ridley exchanged hugs with Johnson and Hart as the show closed out with fireworks to match the sea of light sabers.
