"Mrs. Doubtfire" bank robber sought in California heist

"Mrs. Doubtfire" bandit on the loose

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- A man who police are calling the "Mrs. Doubtfire" bandit is being sought after robbing a bank in Santa Cruz, and being seen casing another bank, all while dressed like a woman, CBS San Francisco reported.

The reference, of course, is to the cross-dressing character of the same name in the movie that starred the late Robin Williams.

Santa Cruz Police said officers responded to report of a bank robbery at around 3:00 p.m. Friday, according to the station.

Officers responded and found the suspect had fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after using a note to demand money from a teller, police said. No weapon was seen.

About an hour earlier, CBS San Francisco says, the same suspect was seen in another bank in Santa Cruz County, acting suspicious and possibly casing the bank, according to its employees.

The workers were surprised to see that although the suspect was dressed like a female, the suspect was actually a male, police said.

He -- aka Mrs. Doubtfire -- is described as approximately 25-35 years old, 160-170 pounds, 5'5" tall, with dark skin. He was wearing prescription glasses, a wavy blond wig, navy blue scrubs, and a light purple long-sleeve undershirt.

Santa Cruz Police urged anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact them, saying the surveillance photos obtained are "great" and "somebody in the community has to recognize this person."
