Morgan Freeman to receive AARP lifetime achievement award
Morgan Freeman will soon have another statue to add to his shelf, as the AARP is honoring the “Shawshank Redemption” star with a lifetime achievement award.
Freeman will received the AARP’s Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award at a gala to be held next year, the organization announced Thursday.
Past recipients have included Robert De Niro, Robert Redford and Susan Sarandon.
“At a certain point in life, if you’ve had some success, awards start to fall from the sky. But this one really means something,” Freeman said in a statement. “I started my movie career at 50, and some of the best years happened since then.”
This isn’t the first career-spanning honor for the Oscar-winning actor. Freeman has also been awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award by the Golden Globes, the American Film Institute’s lifetime achievement award and the National Medal of the Arts, awarded by President Barack Obama.
The AARP will honor Freeman with the award at a dinner on Feb. 6, 2017 in Beverly Hills.
