Modern "Bonnie and Clyde" arrested after alleged robbery spree

WILMINGTON, Del. -- A couple wanted in a string of bank robberies in several East Coast states has been arrested, according to the FBI.

Joseph and Jennifer Carrier, of Quincy, Mass. -- compared to Bonnie and Clyde by one law officer -- were caught Monday after an alleged bank robbery in Delaware and a police chase that led into Pennsylvania. The chase reportedly came to an end after the vehicle the Carriers were in hit several Pennsylvania police cruisers.

The Carriers were wanted for robberies in Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania and Maryland before the latest incident in Delaware.

Police in Ludlow, Mass., say they have been trying to arrest the couple for several weeks since a robbery in their town.

After a robbery in Aberdeen, Md., Sgt. C. William Reiber of the city's police department compared the couple to famous American outlaws.

"Not to sound like a cliche, but they're a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. They're robbing banks and using the funds to support some sort of illicit activity," Reiber said.

The couple was traveling with seven dogs, including five puppies. Those dogs were inside the vehicle when the couple was arrested, according to police.

The Carriers will likely be prosecuted in federal court where each bank robbery has a possible sentence of 25 years in prison.
