Misty Copeland marries longtime partner Olu Evans

Congratulations are in order for ballet dancer Misty Copeland.

Copeland married her longtime partner, attorney Olu Evans, on Sunday in Laguna Beach, California, in front of 100 guests, reports Us Weekly.

The wedding took place at the Montage Hotel, and Copeland wore an Inbal Dror dress and Christian Louboutin shoes.

The dancer got engaged in August 2015, nearly two months after she became the first black female principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre in its 75-year history.

She said at the time of the announcement, "I never ever dreamed of being a principal dancer, that's just not something I ever envisioned as a black woman. It's just really a humbling moment for me and for ballet."

In May 2015, Copeland talked to Bill Whitaker on "60 Minutes" about how she performed "Firebird" in spite of an injury because she felt it was important to the black community.

"By the time the show came, it hurt just to walk and the pressures of knowing how many people were coming out to support, how many people in the African American community, for the first time that understood what this meant to have an African American woman in this position, doing this role with American Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera House," she said. "So it was like, 'I'm doing this!'"

She also told Anthony Mason on "CBS Sunday Morning" in 2014 that she wanted to quit ballet many times because she felt alone as a black dancer, but felt that she had a duty to other minority dancers: "I felt I had a responsibility to represent so many dancers that had come before me that aren't recognized even to this day."
