Missouri GOP announces delegate allocation from primary
Donald Trump has picked up 37 delegates in Missouri and Ted Cruz has won 15, the state's Republican Party announced Wednesday.
The allocations, which were announced a day after the state's primary, are tentative until the Missouri secretary of state certifies the results.
"Because no candidate won more than 50 percent of the votes cast, Missouri's 52 delegates were allocated to the top vote-getter in each congressional district with a bonus to the top vote-getter statewide," the state's GOP said. In spite of the closeness of the race, Trump was allocated over twice as many delegates as Cruz because he won the most votes in more congressional districts.
The announcement came out despite the fact that the state still has not certified the results the GOP race on Tuesday, and it's unclear who won. There are still a number of uncounted votes that are outstanding. With 99 percent of the vote in, Trump and Cruz are in a dead heat at 41 percent.
At this point, according to CBS News' latest count, Trump has 671 delegates so far and Cruz has 401. John Kasich, the governor of Ohio and the only other Republican remaining in the race, has 138 delegates.
On the Democratic side, the state has not yet certified the results of the race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders either. With 99 percent of the vote in, Clinton is leading 50 to 49 percent.
