Miss Colombia writes note after Miss Universe gaffe: "Your destiny is written for you"
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez wrote a long note on Instagram late Tuesday about the Miss Universe debacle in which she was mistakenly crowned the winner.
Miss Universe host Steve Harvey accidentally announced Gutierrez as the winner when he read the results on Sunday. Within minutes, though, the crown was taken away and instead given to the night's actual winner: Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
"After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone [sic] of you who have sent messages of support and strength," Gutierrez wrote on Instagram. "Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world."
"Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this," she added. "I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes... Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world."
She also congratulated Wurtzbach on her big win: "The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS."
This wasn't the first time Gutierrez took to Instagram in the wake of the gaffe. Go here to see what she had to say earlier this week.
For his part, Harvey apologized for the situation, calling it an "honest mistake."
