Mass. man charged with murder after discovery of human remains

WOBURN, Mass. - A Massachusetts man held after the weekend discovery of human remains inside a discarded duffel bag is now facing a murder charge.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Wednesday that 32-year-old Carlos Colina of Cambridge will be arraigned on the new charge April 14. Colina pleaded not guilty Monday to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and improper disposal of a body. He is held on $1 million bail.

Ryan said Colina and the victim, 26-year-old Jonathan Camilien of Somerville, knew each other. She hasn't given any more details.

Remains, including a torso and limbs, first were found in a discarded duffel bag outside a Biogen building in Cambridge on Saturday morning, according to a police report.

A head was later found in a recycling bin in Colina's apartment building across the street, the police report says.

A saw, rope and cleaning supplies were found in Colina's apartment, according to authorities.

A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday with Colina's attorney John Cunha. He declined to comment after Colina's arraignment this week but called it "a sad situation."
