Cops: Md. ice cream truck driver murdered in front of kids

Gunman arrested for allegedly killing ice cream man in front of kids

FREDERICK, Md. -- A Maryland ice cream truck driver was shot and killed as he was selling treats to children on Saturday, reports CBS D.C.

Police say 22-year-old Brandon Brown drove into the Frederick, Md., neighborhood where he died Saturday playing familiar ice cream truck music. Children were lined up when Brown stepped out of the truck around 5:30 p.m. and was approached by a man who shot him in the chest.

Brown died at the scene.

Larnell Lyles, 27, of Frederick, Md., was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and use of a handgun hours after the shooting.

Lyles was previously arrested in April on charges related to possession of synthetic marijuana, according to court records. In October 2014, he also pleaded guilty to a second degree assault charge stemming from an incident that occurred in May of that year.

Brown also had a violent past, according to the Frederick News-Post. The paper reported in 2013 that Brown was sentenced to three years' probation after pleading guilty to stabbing a man during a marijuana deal.

Police say the investigation into Brown's death is still open and more charges may come at a later date.
