Martin O'Malley took out loan to keep campaign afloat

Martin O'Malley took out a $500,000 loan in December to keep his presidential campaign going, according to a filing released Sunday by the Federal Election Commission.

His campaign aides told the The Washington Post that some of the former Maryland governor's staff has had to work without pay.

A campaign spokeswoman told the Post that the $500,000 loan, which was from Amalgamated Bank, has been completely paid off.

The FEC report showed that O'Malley raised $1.5 million in the last quarter of 2015. The $500,000 loan was included in that total.

The key Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa survey released Saturday found only 3 percent of likely Democratic caucus goers back O'Malley.
