Man who carried mother's head in grocery store attack to enter insanity plea
PORTLAND, Ore. -- An Oregon man suspected of killing his mother and then taking her severed head to a grocery store and stabbing an employee plans to rely on a guilty except for insanity defense.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that 37-year-old Joshua Webb's attorney Maryann Meaney filed a notice in Clackamas County Circuit Court on Friday, saying her client was suffering from an undisclosed "mental disease or defect" during the incident.
Webb is accused of killing his mother and her dog on Mother's Day last year. Court records say he then drove his mother's car to nearby Estacada and carried her head into the town's only grocery store and stabbed the employee, who survived.
Witnesses said Wagner and other employees subdued Webb and tied him up with duct tape until emergency responders arrived.
