VIDEO: Man tries to abduct Wash. toddler, teens run after him
SPRAGUE, Wash. -- Police are looking for a suspect in a child abduction attempt that occurred in a Sprague city park on Sunday, reports CBS affiliate KREM.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department in eastern Washington state told the station that it received a 911 call around noon reporting that a slender white male grabbed a 2-year-old child from a stroller and ran.
According to security footage, the man tried to run away with the toddler in his arms and the boy's siblings began to run after him.
The child's two young siblings then yelled and they -- along with two teenagers -- pursued the abductor.
The child was then put down, left a distance from the park and was unharmed, according to KREM.
The two teenagers who are high school freshmen are now being hailed as heroes in the community; they told the station Monday what they saw.
"There's a girl running behind him, he's running through the alleyway with a kid, things don't look right," recounted Andrew Crane, 15.
He and 16-year-old Isaac Yow caught up to the scene and found the 22-month-old boy sitting on the ground. After checking on the toddler, they took off -- running after the man, but the suspect had disappeared, they told KREM.
"I didn't really care," Crane told KREM. "There was a kid's life in danger, and I didn't care about my own at that point."
The teens told the station that they believe the man had a getaway car nearby.
The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information about the suspect, they are asked to call 509-725-3501.
