Man surrenders in North Las Vegas child death probe

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Police say a 39-year-old ex-convict has been arrested on felony charges alleging he abandoned three children in a North Las Vegas home where a 3-year-old girl was found dead last week.

North Las Vegas police say Jondrew Megil Lachaux surrendered Monday with a lawyer to face child abuse and destruction of evidence charges.

Police say the search continues in Nevada and California for 38-year-old Kellie Cherie Phillips and five other children, ages 1 to 9 years old.

The couple had been sought since last week, after a badly malnourished 4-month-old girl was hospitalized and her 17-year-old mother was arrested on child abuse charges. The teen took the critically ill infant to the hospital, reports CBS Las Vegas.

The next morning, police broke into a home where they reportedly found the dead three-year-old child. The teen told police that her mother, Phillips, and Lachaux, left her several weeks ago.

The teen remains in juvenile custody, reports the station.
