Man accused of ramming police car after carjacking, stabbing
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- A California man was arrested early Thursday in connection with an alleged crime spree that included a carjacking, a stabbing and a crash with a police car, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Jose Briseno was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon on police officers after he allegedly rammed a squad car car, the station reports. The rampage started just after midnight Thursday, according to police.
"The suspect walked up to the man just as he had parked his car to go to work," said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. "He pulled out a knife and demanded the keys to the car and then took in it."
The owner of the 2015 silver Hyundai was not injured.
But a stabbing was reported soon after on a nearby street, Wyatt said. Officers responded to the scene and found one man with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. It is not clear what led to the stabbing, Wyatt said.
Shortly after the stabbing was reported, the owner of the stolen car got a call from a friend, telling him he had just seen the car nearby. The car owner and his friend drove to the area to try to get the car back, but the suspect jumped back in and took off again, police said.
The car owner called Anaheim police and officers spotted and followed the car. The suspect initially stopped and got out of the car, then jumped back in yet again, Wyatt said.
The suspect then allegedly rammed his car into an Anaheim police car with officers in it, disabling the stolen car.
The suspect was then taken into custody, Wyatt said.
