Man sentenced for killing ex-girlfriend, hiding body in car

NEW YORK --A Queens man who admitted tokilling his ex-girlfriend and hiding her bloody body in the trunk of her car has been sentenced, reports CBS New York.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Luis Zambrano was sentenced to 28 years in prison in the killing of Angie Escobar, a mother of two. The 28-year-old had been stabbed with scissors while trying to end her relationship with Zambrano, according to charging documents.

Zambrano then locked the body inside the trunk and fled, reports the station. The body was reportedly found four days later on Sept. 10, 2015 in the abandoned car in Queens. Police were called to the scene after receiving a call of a suspicious vehicle that had a foul odor emanating from the trunk.

Authorities say the victim had been stabbed 80 times.

Zambrano was reportedly arrested in Virginia on Sept. 18, 2015. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month, according to CBS New York.

Zambrano reportedly said that demonic possession and trust issues led to the killing. He also said he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and barely remembers what happened.
