2 arrests after Los Angeles party shooting that killed 3, injured 12
LOS ANGELES — Police on Sunday announced the arrest of two people accused of shooting 15 — three fatally — at a California party, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Mowayne McKay, 33, and Diego Reid, 25, both Jamaican nationals, have been named as suspects in the deadly shootings, which occurred after a fight broke out around 12:30 a.m. Saturday during a party in South Los Angeles.
Police say the incident unfolded at a home that had been converted into a restaurant. The location, described by the Los Angeles Times as a popular Jamaican eatery that features a DJ on Friday night, was busy and a celebration was underway at the time of the shooting.
A man and woman had left earlier in the evening, and when they returned, the restaurant erupted in gunfire, CBS Los Angeles reported Saturday.
The shooting occurred in a residential area of modest homes. Investigators were snapping photographs and scouring the ground in an area around the site.
LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado told The Los Angeles Times that the restaurant was “a bloody scene with shell casings everywhere.”
One firearm was recovered at the scene. About 50 people were in the restaurant when the shooting started.
McKay and Reid are expected to be booked Monday on murder charges.
