Lil Wayne says he "ain't connected" to Black Lives Matter movement
It doesn’t look like Lil Wayne will be marching in support of Black Lives Matter anytime soon.
In an expletive-laced interview with “Nightline” last night, the rapper said the movement “sounds weird,” and suggested that it may not even be necessary in today’s social landscape.
“I am a young, black rich motherf***er,” he said. “If that don’t let you know that America understand that black motherf***ers matter these days, I don’t know what it is.”
“That man white -- he filmin’ me,” Weezy added while pointing to “Nightline’s” cameraman. “My life matter. Especially to my b****es.”
The rapper showed some familiarity with the tension that’s ensued after numerous racist shootings by the police in recent years, mentioning that “somebody got shot by a policeman for a f***ed up reason.”
Still, he was adamant that the cause held no importance to him when pressed by ABC News’ Linsey Davis.
“I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me,” he replied. “If you do, you crazy as s***.”
Wayne’s comments stood in stark contrast to a concert he held in August when he shouted “black lives matter” out to the crowd.
The 33-year-old rapper is one of the most successful in the business, having sold over 15 million albums. In 2012, he surpassed Elvis as the artist with the most Billboard Hot 100 hits of all time.
