Naomi Watts talks about intimacy in "Demolition"
Sometimes rebuilding a life means taking a sledgehammer to it first.
At least that's the message of "Demolition," the new film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée ("Dallas Buyers Club," "Wild") that stars Academy-Award winner Jake Gyllenhaal.
The film tells the story of successful investment banker Davis Mitchell, whose seemingly perfect life begins to fall apart -- both mentally and physically -- after the death of his wife (Heather Lind) in a car accident.
While in the hospital where his wife is confirmed dead, Davis finds himself fixated on a vending machine that fails to deliver him a pack of peanut M&M's.
What begins as a complaint letter to the vending machine company quickly turns into a series of letters Davis uses to pour out his emotions. On the receiving end of those letters is Karen Moreno (Naomi Watts), a single mother working as a customer service representative, who, despite her own personal life struggles, finds comfort in Davis' words.
"I think it starts off she likes the anonymity of it," Watts tells CBS News. "Then she realizes she needs the intimacy of it."
With the help of Karen and her teenage son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis slowly begins to piece his life back together, but first he must demolish all remnants of his past.
"Demolition" opens in theaters Friday April 8th, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper, Judah Lewis, Heather Lind, Polly Draper and Brendan Dooling.
