Lena Dunham apologizes for molestation joke on Twitter
Lena Dunham has publicly apologized after making a joke on Twitter about being molested, which some saw as insensitive.
The HBO "Girls" star ignited controversy on Sunday while responding to a fan's comment about a skit she appeared in during her recent stint as host of "Saturday Night Live."
In the "SNL" sketch, Dunham parodied her frequent nude scenes on "Girls" by playing Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The following day, one Twitter user wrote "You don't always have to get naked!" in reference to the skit, to which Dunham, 27, responded: "Please tell that to my uncle, mister. He's been making me!"
Some of Dunham's Twitter followers said the comment was in poor taste and offensive to sex abuse victims. Others pointed out hypocrisy, as Dunham recently took to Twitter to defend Dylan Farrow for voicing claims that she was molested by her estranged father Woody Allen in 1993.
Following the public outcry, Dunham deleted the Twitter post before issuing a mea culpa:
