LAPD: Hit-and-run driver struck two skateboarders

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Police Department says they arrested a hit-and-run driver who struck two teens on skateboards in Echo Park evening, CBS Los Angeles.

The accident Friday night, June 12, left one of the teens -- a 15-year-old -- in critical condition. The other victim, the older teen's 13-year-old cousin, suffered minor injuries, police said. Both victims are male and residents of Los Angeles, police said.

Police said the hit-and-run suspect is also a male who was driving a white pickup truck, the station reported. One teen victim tried to pull the other to safety but it was too late, police said.

People close to the cousins told CBS Los Angeles they were inseparable, and always on their skateboards.

Family friends also told the station that the family of one of the victims has been through an inordinate amount of pain of late -- the father of one of the boys died last year.
