Lady Gaga addresses her new toned-down style
Lady Gaga may be known for her bold sense of style, but for her upcoming album, “Joanne,” she’d prefer to keep it all about the music.
The “Perfect Illusion” singer opens up about the back-to-basics, stripped-down fashion she’s been sporting as of late in a recent interview with The London Times’ Culture magazine, sharing that she doesn’t want her wardrobe to steal the spotlight from her album.
“To be frank, I would just prefer to go through this album cycle and talk about my music. That’d be great,” the 30-year-old singer said. “It becomes about everything else, and that was what I [once] wanted. But if I wear a black T-shirt and black pants every day, [people] might listen to what I write.”
“All the outfits, fashion and art pieces over the years made sense to me,” she explained. “They didn’t make sense to other people. But I always got it. It was an expression, not a hiding.”
Still, Gaga does admit that her more elaborate pieces may contribute to some difficulty in the studio, hilariously remarking, “You can’t make music with a bunch of boys who are staring at a lobster on your head.”
“This time, my style just stayed naturally at how I’ve been in the studio,” Gaga shared. “I started vehemently saying, ‘Get these clothes out! I’m not wearing this! I’m not wearing heels!’”
The struggle for recognition as a female songwriter is something Gaga commented on recently in The New York Times Style Magazine.
“It’s an endless proving of myself, that I really am a musician, that I have something to offer in the room,” she said. “That women can be musicians, women can be rock stars, women can be more than an objectified idea of a pop star.”
Thankfully, we can be all ears for Mother Monster when Joanne drops on Friday, and again on Feb. 5, 2017, when Gaga takes her act to the Super Bowl halftime show!
