Watch Silicon Valley's latest vision for personal flying vehicles

Do the skies above America's bodies of water need disrupting? A Silicon Valley venture thinks so, and just unveiled its latest vision for a flying vehicle that glides above water. 

In a new video, the company Kitty Hawk shows off its new, all-electric aircraft prototype, which is specifically designed to fly above water. According to Kitty Hawk, the vehicle doesn't require a pilot's license to fly and requires just a few minutes of familiarization to learn. 

It's a sign that the "future is here," Russell Hancock, president and CEO of Joint Venture Silicon Valley, told CBS San Francisco. 

"This is an actual prototype, and it's working — and this is the sort of thing that can probably go into mass production pretty quickly. As technology goes, the components aren't that sophisticated," Hancock said. 

Kitty Hawk is far from the only company currently tinkering with different visions for flying vehicles: other companies in this space include Slovakia-based AeroMobil, aerospace company Airbus, and even Uber. 

Kitty Hawk is backed by Google co-founder Larry Page, who committed $100 million, CBS San Francisco reports. The flying vehicle will hit the market by the end of 2017, the company said.
