Kids kidnap kids: Suspects, 12 and 14, abducted siblings from playground, police say

WASHINGTON -- A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old from Maryland have been charged with kidnapping after police say they abducted a 9-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister, CBS DC reports.

Investigators said the suspects took the siblings from a playground in Lothian, carried them into a barn on adjacent property while brandishing a knife, and tied them up with ropes. Then, the young suspects allegedly threatened to burn the pre-teens.

When the suspects heard other children from the neighborhood looking for the 8- and 9-year-olds, they fled, according to police in the community about 20 miles from Wash., D.C..

A group which included one adult found the siblings, freed them and waited for authorities, according to the station.

Police said the victims and witnesses identified the suspects, who were quickly arrested.

The Department of Juvenile Services was contacted and both suspects were placed in a juvenile detention facility. They are each charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, arson, assault, reckless endangerment, burglary and trespassing.
