Kendra Wilkinson: "I have faith everything will work itself out"
Will Kendra Wilkinson end up on top with her marriage?
The ups and downs of Wilkinson and Hank Baskett's love life are playing out on the new season of "Kendra on Top," and the reality TV star says they're continuing to figure things out in real life.
"It's still an ongoing process with everything because we're on real time here, real marriage time and real life-time," she said. "It's not like I can just make up a decision time-wise for the show. It's a real decision that I have to make."
The couple, who married in 2009 at the Playboy Mansion, hit a rocky point in their relationship when reports surfaced this year suggesting that Baskett had cheated. Some of the drama has already started to unfold this season, and more is yet to come.
"The first episode was really crazy, a lot of drama," said the 29-year-old reality TV star. "You're going to get a good look at Hank's side of things....You haven't seen that yet....The reason why Hank hasn't talked to the media is because this is his voice. This is what he went through. He is really going through a lot. I start to gain a little bit of heart for him. It's so hard when you first hear something."
At one point, Wilkinson says she thought it was "all over" with the former football player.
"I really did, I thought it was all over, it's done," she said. "I was thinking I was single again, but then when Hank comes back and I see him, he becomes human to me again...The importance of our story is now starting in this week's [episode]. The humanity, the second side of the story."
But Baskett, 32, isn't the only focus of season 3 of "Kendra on Top." Wilkinson says viewers will get the "truth" about her relationship with her mom and also find out why she chose to reunite with her father after two decades.
"It's more than just Hank," she said. "I thought Hank would be the biggest issue around this time, but at the end of the day what happened with Hank leaves me to discover the truth about my own life with my mom and my dad."
Viewers are also getting to see Wilkinson juggle motherhood a second time. She gave birth to a second child, daughter Alijah Mary Baskett, in May. Alijah joins older brother Hank Baskett IV, who was born December 2009.
In addition to taking care of her children, Wilkinson has spent time taking care of herself, trying to get back into shape post-pregnancy.
She's been doing that with the help of Atkins and is now an ambassador for the plan. It means she maintains a low-carbohydrate diet, with a high intake of protein, vegetables and cheese. She's also eliminating more sugar from her plate. Wilkinson says she's not depriving herself, adding, "It just makes me feel so much better and lighter on my toes throughout the day."
She packs on the veggies in the morning and tries to slip in a workout (usually a mix of cardio and strength training) when she can -- but her main goal is to "keep moving."
"With two kids now and working," she says, "it's hard to find myself in a gym nowadays."
She even started a garden at home. "I planted a garden in the back, and Hank and I made sure our son was involved in that so he could see how our food is grown and why it's important to eat from the Earth," she said.
Viewers will get to see the ins and outs of her family life throughout this season of "Kendra on Top," something Wilkinson is very much used to having starred in the reality series "The Girls Next Door" and "Dancing with the Stars."
"I have been working with my cameras for 10 years now," she said. "It is second nature to me."
Wilkinson says she chooses to film her life because she "has faith." "For instance, say I do divorce Hank and we move on, I will end up making that a positive situation and that people are inspired by that," she said. "If I do stay with Hank, then I'm representing another side to things. So there's no negative out of this situation."
As for the future of her marriage?
"For me, I have faith everything will work itself out," she said. "That was my belief from the start, and that's my belief now."
"Kendra on Top" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on WE tv.
