Director David Yates, who has directed four of the eight "Harry Potter" films, will direct "Fantastic Beasts," set roughly 70 years before Harry Potter is born and based on a Hogwarts textbook by the same name.

"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the 'Harry Potter' series but an extension of the wizarding world," Rowling explained in a statement.

The film is slated for release Nov. 18, 2016.
