Kate Hudson is "dead to me," says birth dad Bill Hudson
Kate Hudson's biological father, musician Bill Hudson, disowned the actress and her brother Oliver in an interview with The Daily Mail this past weekend, and requested that they stop using the name Hudson name.
After Oliver Hudson, posted a scathing message to his estranged birth dad on Father's Day, saying "Happy abandonment day," alongside a photo of the drummer with the siblings as children, the spurned dad hit back.
"I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own," Hudson, who was married to their mother Goldie Hawn from 1976 to 1980, said in the interview.
"I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name," he went on, saying that their mother Hawn had "poisoned" them against him. "They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver's Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth."
Following Hudson's divorce from Hawn in 1980, Hawn linked up with actor Kurt Russell in 1983. The relationship continues to this day, and Kate, 36, and Oliver Hudson, 38, have often remarked that they view Russell as their father.
Kate was not involved in her brother's post, but she did send Russell warm messages this Father's Day on Instagram.
"Pa, just simply ... Thank you," she wrote, posting a photo of herself and Russell. "Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back."
In regards to her biological father, she has more than once explained her frustration with him in magazine interviews, telling Vanity Fair in 2000 that he "doesn't know me from a hole in the wall...But I don't care. I have a dad [Russell]. The bottom line is, you call your kids on their f---- birthday. I'm glad I had a dad who was there on my birthday."
Bill Hudson of the band The Hudson Brothers doesn't appear to be open to making amends. "I don't want to see either of my eldest children ever again," he told The Daily Mail. "It's over."
