Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting on "The Big Bang Theory" success, life as newlywed

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting plays Penny on CBS' popular Thursday night comedy, "The Big Bang Theory." Penny is the insightful neighbor of two socially challenged physicists.  

Cuoco-Sweeting joined the "CBS This Morning" co-hosts to discuss the success of the show as well as being a very recent newlywed. Cuocu-Sweeting only recently hyphenated her name after her Dec. 31, 2013 wedding to professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting. 

The pair were engaged in September of 2013 after only three months of dating. She said she "absolutely" knew on the second date that Sweeting was the one and "it was meant to be."

"We both knew. I've been in previous relationships with great people and I just never saw, though, that end and that marriage. I knew it wasn't the right thing," said Cuoco-Sweeting. "Ryan and I met and it was completely hearts in our eyes and I get emotional talking about it because he's the most wonderful person in the world. We couldn't be happier."

Cuoco-Sweeting also discussed how popular "The Big Bang Theory" has become, saying "It has been an amazing ride and we're having a blast."  

"We're going into our eighth year and we all actually have said recently that we feel we have so many more stories to tell and … we've got years left in us. We don't want to be done," she said. "I wish it would last forever."

She said she believes the success of the show lies with its characters and the writing.

"The characters have gotten more loveable over the years. I mean, you just love these guys from day one and the writing is genius," she said. "I don't know how they continue to come up with these episodes. That's not easy to do. Week after week and people keep laughing and buying weird t-shirts and games and it's awesome."  

"The Big Bang Theory" co-creator Chuck Lorre said that Cuoco-Sweeting "was born to the form. There's an instinctive thing with comedy that some people have - an elegance and gracefulness, where no effort is apparent." When asked about these comments, Cuoco-Sweeting said that she likes to make people laugh.

"I don't like to take myself too seriously, so maybe that's a little part of it," she said. "I always want to have fun and make people laugh and obviously, being able to say funny things and the writing is a huge help and working with a comedic genius like Chuck makes it … that's the cherry on top."

It is a big season for Cuoco-Sweeting's character, Penny, who quits her job as a waitress to become an actress.

"Poor Penny - She's trying to audition. She's having a rough time," said Cuoco-Sweeting. "She's following that dream, like a lot of people are out there - and not doing great, but she doesn't care. She wants to be an actress."
