Justin Bieber addresses "arrogant" behavior in emotional video

Justin Bieber has a heartfelt message for fans.

In a new video posted on Facebook Wednesday night, the 20-year-old pop star opens up about the past year, addressing his "arrogant" and erratic behavior.

He filmed the video following a taping for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" during which he said he felt nervous and afraid of what people might be thinking of him; he feared that people were judging him.

"It's been a minute since I've been in a public appearance and I didn't want to come off arrogant or conceited -- or basically how I've been acting the past year, year and a half," Bieber says in the clip. "I'm not who I was pretending to be. And where I say pretending is often we pretend to be something we're not as a cover-up of what we're truly feeling inside."

"Just being young and growing up in this business is hard," he adds. "Growing up in general is hard."

The Canadian pop star goes on to say that he wants to make the best impression; he wants to be "kind" and "soft."

Over the past year or so, Bieber has probably made more headlines for his personal and legal shenanigans than for his music -- from an arrest in Florida to issues with neighbors and more.

Recently it seems that Bieber has been trying to rebrand his image a bit. Earlier this month, Comedy Central announced that Bieber will be the subject of its roast later this year.

Bieber, meanwhile, has been spending some time in the studio, recording new music. He teased a pair of short snippets of new ballads on his Instagram:
