John McCain undecided on supporting Rex Tillerson confirmation

WASHINGTON -- One of Donald Trump’s most controversial Cabinet appointments is his choice for secretary of state, ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson

Tillerson sat through a contentious confirmation hearing in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week, and got grilled by lawmakers of both parties on his close ties with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

One of the Senate’s most prominent Russia hawks, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, told “CBS Evening News” anchor Scott Pelley on Wednesday that he was still undecided on whether to support Tillerson’s nomination.

“I have concerns. And I have had several conversations with him. And he has made a strong case that his job as one of world’s largest corporations is very different from that of our secretary of state. And frankly I have a tendency to believe him. Obviously he’s been a great success in business, but I really would like to see more of this issue of what America stands for,” McCain said,

“Your mind’s not made up then?” Pelley asked.

“No,” McCain replied.
