John Kerry to meet with Gulf leaders on Iran deal
Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to the Gulf in early August to brief the region's leaders on the Iran nuclear deal.
"I will be meeting with the entire GCC and giving them a full briefing, download, answering any questions they have on August 3," Kerry said Tuesday, after meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir at the State Department. Kerry was referring to the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes the nations of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Al-Jubeir said the meeting would take place in Doha. The Saudi foreign minister added that his country was still in the process of reviewing the recently negotiated deal.
The meeting's announcement comes soon after the conclusion of six-nation talks with Iran over restricting the country's nuclear program.
Since the end of negotiations, several members of Congress have criticized the terms of the deal, and some Middle East leaders are worried about the agreement. President Obama has challenged naysayers, calling the nuclear agreement "the most vigorous inspection and verification regime by far."
