John Kasich weighs in on third-party presidential bid
John Kasich has rejected the idea of running as a third-party candidate to try to stop Donald Trump from winning the presidency.
"I'm not gonna do that," the Ohio governor told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an interview Monday.
Ted Cruz and Kasich ended their bids for the Republican nomination about two weeks ago, after Trump won the Indiana Republican primary, and Kasich's name was recently floated by a group that is looking at launching an independent bid.
"I just think running third party doesn't feel right," Kasich said in the interview. "I think it's not constructive."
Kasich acknowledged he had had a phone conversation with someone encouraging him to run, but he was dismissive about a third party's prospects.
"A third-party candidacy would be viewed as kind of a silly thing," he said. "And I don't think it's appropriate. I just don't think it would be the right thing to do."
