Dickerson: The appeal of Indiana Governor Mike Pence

What does Pence bring to GOP ticket?

Updated at 7:34 p.m. ET: Donald Trump has postponed the announcement of his running mate due to the deadly truck attack in Nice, France. A news conference had been scheduled for Friday.

Donald Trump has picked Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his Vice President, a move that many see as a balancing factor for the Republican ticket, reports "Face the Nation" host John Dickerson.

How will Mike Pence help the Trump campaign?

Dickerson said on Thursday that Pence's reputation as a serious conservative appeals to the far right of the party.

"Unlike somebody like Newt Gingrich, who is a bit of a rambunctious politician, Mike Pence is not somebody who's going to cause issues for the person at the top of the ticket in terms of behavior and staying on message."

The delegates Dickerson spoke with in Cleveland also said Pence is a "stabilizing pick," giving them more peace of mind than Trump, who can be unpredictable.
