John Carpenter has signed on to executive produce a new "Halloween" film -- the franchise's 11th entry -- in a deal co-financed by Miramax and Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions, according to Deadline.
"Thirty-eight years after the original 'Halloween,' I'm going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all," Carpenter said in a statement.
Carpenter co-wrote and directed "Halloween," the 1978 horror film that introduced Michael Myers as a terrifying villain and made Jamie Lee Curtis a star. Carpenter also produced 1981's "Halloween 2," though he step away from the franchise following that. The 10-film franchise has brought in nearly $400 million worldwide, according to Miramax.
"'Halloween' is one of those milestone films that inspired everyone at our company to get into the world of scary movies," Blum said, adding that a director for the project had not yet been chosen. "We cannot wait to find and collaborate with the right filmmaker to give 'Halloween' fans the movie they deserve."
