Report: Missing NYC mom found stabbed to death behind wall

NEW YORK — A New York City woman who had been missing since Jan. 23 was found stabbed to death on Saturday, reports local news site DNAinfo.

Joan Viau, 52, was last seen alive when she took her 31-year-old son, Joseph Garcia, for a doctor’s appointment at a VA facility in the Bronx.

Garcia was arrested Friday and charged with grand larceny for allegedly using his mother’s credit card after she went missing, reports CBS New York

Days after her disappearance, blood was found inside Viau’s bedroom and her car, police said.

On Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m., police in northern Manhattan were called after Viau’s body was found behind a wall near the George Washington Bridge, about five miles from the VA facility.

Charges have not been filed in connection with Viau’s death, and police have not said if there are suspects in the case.
