J.K. Rowling to publish new "Harry Potter" story on Halloween

Harry Potter fans, get ready for some fresh reading material.

J.K. Rowling announced she is releasing a 1700-word new piece on "Harry Potter" villain Dolores Umbridge. The entry will offer a backstory for the former Hogwarts professor as well as Rowling's own insight on the character.

Umbridge was played by Imelda Staunton in the films. She first appears in the fifth Harry Potter book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," published in 2003.

"Umbridge is not only one of the most malicious Potter characters, she is the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry," reads the update posted to Pottermore.com on Friday. "The new exclusive J.K. Rowling content provides a rich, 1,700-word back story about Umbridge's life filled with many new details, as well as Rowling's revealing first-person thoughts and reflections about the character."

Rowling's new Potter writing will be released Oct. 31 on Pottermore.

Earlier this year, the author released a fake news story that gave an update on Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, as well as a piece about the singing witch Celestina Warbeck.
