Jared Leto says he almost went to Oscars in "Dallas Buyers Club" drag

Jared Leto didn't just win an Academy Award for playing Rayon in "Dallas Buyers Club," he also considered going to the Oscars dressed in drag as the character.

In

a recent interview with the London Evening Standard, the 42-year-old actor and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman said he mulled "dragging up" for the 86th Academy Awards as his character would, "because I knew she would have loved to be there."

He also told the Standard that the role gave him even greater respect for women.

"It's so much work for girls to get ready," he said. "I was brought up by my mum, so I always had an appreciation of women. But now I have more respect for the process."

Leto took home the best supporting actor Oscar for his performance as a transsexual AIDS patient, a role which required him to loose over 30 pounds.

"This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS," Leto said during his March 2 acceptance speech. "And to those of you who have ever felt injustice because of who you are and who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you."

Leto is currently on tour with the rest of the members of 30 Seconds to Mars.
