Japan offers new evidence in islands row with China
TOKYO -- Japan released photos of Chinese offshore platforms to protest what it calls China's unilateral development of natural gas fields in the East China Sea.
The 14 photos were posted on the Foreign Ministry's website Wednesday, one day after Japan complained about the activity in its annual defense white paper.
Both countries claim a group of small, uninhabited islands in the East China Sea known as the Senkaku in Japanese and the Diaoyu in Chinese.
The Chinese work is limited to its side of a median line that divides the waters, and China says its exploration is "justified, reasonable and legitimate."
Japan maintains that the activity violates a 2008 agreement to develop natural resources jointly.
This isn't the only place where China's policies have angered other nations.
