Janet Jackson to release first new album in seven years this fall

After dropping some strong hints on Twitter last month, today it's official: Janet Jackson will indeed put out her first original album in seven years before the end of 2015.

Jackson's Rhythm Nation record label will partner with BMG for the worldwide release of her eleventh career record (not including her five remix and compilation albums) slated for this fall, the music management company announced Wednesday. And according to Radio Facts, her first single will drop in the next few weeks.

"I promised you'd hear it from my lips and now you will. This year: new music; new world tour; a new movement. I've been listening. Let's keep the conversation going," Jackson, 49, announced in a video message posted on Twitter.

Jackson's music achievement spans three decades, with some of the most epic worldwide success in pop-music history, including her record-breaking albums "Control" (1984), "Rhythm Nation 1814" (1989) and "janet." (1993). Her last album, "Discipline," hit gold in 2008, but the artist took a long hiatus following the untimely death of her brother Michael Jackson in June 2009.

Her long-awaited new album is a big deal for BMG and her fans across the globe --"Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world," BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said in the announcement.
