Iowa mall guard accused of killing Children's Museum kiosk employee
CORALVILLE, IOWA -- Police say a security guard shot and killed a female employee Friday at the mall in eastern Iowa where they both worked Friday.
CBS affiliate KGAN reports that 20-year-old Andrea Farrington was shot in the back three times at around 7:30 p.m., while working at the Iowa Children's Museum kiosk at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, Iowa. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.
Farrington's family said working for the Iowa Children's Museum had been her dream. She had the job for six months before her death.
Early Saturday morning, officials identified mall security guard Alexander Matthew Kozak, 22, of North Liberty, Iowa, as the suspect in Farrington's murder. Police say witnesses saw him flee the scene.
Soon after the shooting, troopers spotted Kozak's car on Interstate 80 near Davenport, about 50 miles east of the mall, and arrested him without incident.
Kozak is charged with first degree murder and is being held on $10 million bond. Officials said he began working as a security guard at the mall in late 2014 and was working the day of the shooting.
Officials said Kozak left the mall with the intent to kill, got a gun from his residence, and returned to shoot Farrington.
Kozak allegedly admitted to killing Farrington, KGAN reports.
