Indiana house fire leaves 4 children dead

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. -- Four children died in a house fire early Monday morning in Flora, Indiana, the state fire marshal’s office confirmed to CBS West Lafayette, Indiana affiliate WLFI-TV.

The fire was called in around 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

The four were in the home with a woman, whose condition wasn’t immediately known.

The youngest child was 4 and the oldest was 13.

Investigators haven’t said how or if the children were related to the woman.

Two law enforcement officers were also injured.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby told WLFI deputy Drew Yoder was flown by helicopter to a hospital burn unit in Fort Wayne. He had burns to his hands and forehead. According to Leazenby, the “next 48 to 72 hours are crucial” for Yoder’s recovery.

Flora police officer Josh Disinger was also hurt, but the extent of his injuries wasn’t known.
