Punches thrown at meeting to replace Indiana town's marshal
HYMERA, Ind. -- A dispute has broken out at a board meeting to replace the town marshal of a western Indiana community.
CBS affiliate WTHI in Terre Haute reported Tuesday that punches were thrown during the meeting where members voted to replace Darrick Cullison. The town's board passed a motion to give the marshal position to Daryl McCullough.
In exclusive video captured by WTHI, two men are seen lunging at McCullough. The video shows one man striking McCullough in the face several times. Another man is holding McCullough by the face.
Details on what sparked the dispute and possible injuries weren't immediately available.
Cullison is suing the Town of Hymera. His attorney has said the board failed to follow state-mandated procedures when it voted Oct. 23 to end Cullison's employment as marshal of the town about 25 miles south of Terre Haute.
Cullison is seeking his job back, back pay, benefits and attorney fees. His attorney says that due to Cullison's employment as marshal for at least a decade, he achieved merit rights allowing him to appeal terminations and disciplinary matters.
Following Tuesday night's incident, WTHI received an e-mail from Cullison which reads: "I'm Sorry."
The station reported that no arrests were made.
